DAN HOWARDMaudie (Savell) Fryery lost her battle with Alzheimer’s disease on February 24, 2016, in Madison, MS, at the age of 86.  Maudie was born on September 21, 1929, in Philadelphia, MS, and was the oldest daughter of Monroe and Katie Savell. Maudie married the love of her life, William James Carlton Fryery on March 24, 1950. They would have been married 65 years this past March.  Maudie and Carlton resided in Yazoo City, MS, where they raised their three children – James Oscar, Janice Marie and Deborah Kaye. Maudie taught kindergarten in Yazoo City for many years and loved to spend time with her family and friends.  She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, puzzles and reading.  Maudie was particularly talented at giving hugs, a talent which she graciously shared with everyone who visited her at St. Catherine’s Village. The family wishes to extend a special note of appreciation to the Dominican Sisters at St. Dominic’s for their love and support and would also like to thank their many supportive friends, including the staff of both Campbell Cove and Siena Center at St. Catherine’s Village, for their patience, dedication, compassion and wisdom over the past few years as we have taken this journey together. Maudie was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Katie Savell; her brothers, Jimmy Wade Savell and Devon Savell; and her grandson, Aaron Alexander Bass.  She is survived by her son, James Oscar Fryery (Susan); daughters, Janice Knight (Deral) and Kaye Lyytinen (Bob); grandchildren, Christi Fryery Mock (Dennis), James Anthony Fryery (Brandon), David Jason Bain (Maura), Lisa Marie Rhodes (Justin), Joshua Caleb Fryery-Bass and Lauren Elisabeth Bass; great-grandchildren, Jacob Anthony Fryery, Gabriel Michael Fryery, James Alexander Fryery, Brianna Jade Fryery, Addison Grace Rhodes, Matthew Jason Bain, Marley Kate Rhodes and Brody Scott Rhodes; and sister, Wanda Parker (Jimmy). Pallbearers will be James Fryery, Deral Knight, Justin Rhodes, Jason Bain, Bob Lyytinen and Clay McConnell.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Catherine’s Village, 200 Dominican Drive, Madison, MS 39110.
