JAY MURPHYREV. RICHARD BURKS Mr. Hurshel Burks, 80, of Louisville, died Monday, January 25, 2016, at his home. He was born and reared in the Alice community of Neshoba County. He served in the U.S. Army for five years and retired from U.S. Motors after 30 plus years. Mr. Burks served for 12 years on the Neshoba County School Board. He was owner and operator of Maw Maw’s Kountry Korner in Louisville for 27 years. Mr. Burks was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Winston County. He was a member of Philadelphia Masonic Lodge #93, Neshoba County Shrine Club and Hamasa Temple Shrine in Meridian. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Carter Burks of Louisville; daughter, Sarah Ann Burks Jenkins (David) of Philadelphia; sons, Rev. Charles Lavon Burks (Renee) of Laurel, Frankie Thomas Burks (Brigit) of Philadelphia, James William Carter (Teresa) of Louisville, Terry Joe Carter of Louisville and Kevin Dewayne Carter of Louisville; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Homer and Katie Adcock Burks; sisters, Bobbie Theresa Holmes and Sandra Lynn Clark; and brother, Martin Nathaniel Burks.Pallbearers were Shane Porter, William Jenkins, Jonathan Jenkins, Neal Chadwick, Christopher Chadwick, Taylor Moody and Will Corbin Rogers.
