UNTIL SERVICE TIME AT THE CHURCHINTERMENT: HENRY'S CHAPEL CEMETERYOFFICIATING:  REV. BILLY GOODWINMr. Akins, 82, of Philadelphia, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson. He was a native of the Fork community in Neshoba County and had been a resident of the Dixon community for the past 22 years.  He was a retired grocer/butcher and was former owner and operator of Hope County Store in Neshoba County, Corner Grocery & Meat Market in Lovington, New Mexico, and Akins Westside Grocery in Indianola.  Mr. Akins attended Bluff Springs Baptist Church in Neshoba County.  He served in the U.S. Army during the late 50’s and was stationed in Germany. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Pope and her husband, Tim of Philadelphia and Sheila Noble of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; one son, Dexter Akins, Sr. and his wife, Sherry of Decatur; nine grandchildren, Benstan Pope of Carthage, Bryant Pope of Union, Celeste Cooper of Kosciusko, Dexter Akins, Jr. of Hernando, Derek Noble of Newport News, Virginia, Brad Noble of Clarksville, Tennessee, Matt Noble of Newport News, Virginia, Wesley Akins of Philadelphia, and Taylor Akins of Philadelphia; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Mr. Akins was preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Jean Akins and a son, Benson Akins.Grandsons served as pallbearers.
