DWIGHT FLEMING Farris Earline Smith Boxx Kemp, 98 years old, died September 9, 2015, at Spring Meadow Health Care Center in Clarksville, Tennessee. She was born February 7, 1917, in Ellison Ridge, Winston County, Mississippi, to the parents of Elmer and Lee Hill Smith. Preceded in death by: sisters Erie Johnson, Gussie Flint, Ben Ingram; brother Terrell Smith; and husbands Vardaman Wood, Elliott Bounds, Woodrow Boxx, and Silas Kemp. Farris is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Zane Wood Black, granddaughter Gena Wells Tate (Brian), of Clarksville, Tennessee; grandson Ray Wood Townsend (Heather) of Pelahatchie, Mississippi; great-granddaughter Breanna Tate of Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee, and a host of nieces and nephews. While living in Neshoba County, Mississippi, she worked as a sales associate for Mars Brothers and color artist at George Day Studio. In 1971 she and Vardaman moved to Pelahatchie, Mississippi, where she worked at home, operating her Children’s Corner day care center. Later she was the Pelahatchie News correspondent for the Scott County Times. Awards include: national - Golden Poet, 1989; Mississippi - Most Talented Senior Adult; and Pelahatchie Outstanding Citizen, 2002. Farris was a member of Pelahatchie Baptist Church, where she was involved in teaching children’s Sunday School, choir, and homebound ministries. Memorial Service – September 13, 2015, 2 pm at McClain-Hays Funeral Home in Philadelphia, Mississippi, with burial at Immanuel Cemetery in Neshoba County. Service will be conducted by pastors, Guy Hughes and Dwight Fleming. Pallbearers include: Dwayne Ensign, David Marcase, John Marcase, Melvin Orr, Chad Stewart, and Doug Tullos Gifts in memory of Farris Kemp may be given to Pelahatchie Baptist Church Building Fund.
