CHRIS YOUNG Sara Frances Peebles Howell, of Philadelphia, MS, passed away on Wednesday, July 29 at Anderson Hospital in Meridian of internal organ complications. A lifelong resident of Neshoba County, she was born on July 16, 1926. Sara was preceded in death by her parents Robert Carley Peebles and Sara Tay Peebles, her brother Bob Peebles, her sister Martha Tay Conn, and her daughter, Janie Tay Strange. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ray Howell; her sons, Carlton Howell and Harold Howell; her daughter Deborah Howell; as well as eight grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Charlene Webb; her brother-in-law, Steve Webb; sister-in-law Katherine Peebles; and a number of nieces and nephews. Sara obtained her B.S. in Library Science from MS College for Women. Her home was often filled to the brim during lively family gatherings. Sara and Ray passed their love of laughter, storytelling, music and the arts to their family. Known affectionately as “Mama Sara” to her grandchildren, she is dearly loved by her family and community throughout Philadelphia, and she will be remembered for her compassion, patience, graciousness, and hospitality. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Lupus Foundation of America.
