Lavon Slaughter

KEITH HALL Mr. Slaughter, 89, died Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko. He was a native and longtime resident of Philadelphia/Neshoba County and taught in both county and city school systems for 25 years and later worked for Mississippi Council of Aging  for 20 years.  Mr. Slaughter was a member of First Baptist Church in Philadelphia.  He was a member of the Lions Club and Toastmasters.  He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and later in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired from the Air National Guard as Lieutenant Colonel.  He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. Survivors include his wife, Nadean Slaughter of Philadelphia; daughter, Jayne Robinson (Keith) of Biloxi; son, Charles “Butch” Slaughter (Janet) of Pearl; grandchildren, Josh Slaughter, Julie Henkel, Meredith Zahorsky, Kyle Robinson and Kera Robinson; great-grandchildren, Jacob Henkel, Max and Molly Zahorsky and Kasen Robinson; sister, Helen Slaughter McGee of Madison and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Mr.  Slaughter was preceded in death by his  parents, Collier and Minnie Slaughter and his granddaughter, Jamie Slaughter.In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the First Baptist Church or First Church of God on Columbus Avenue.
