ALLEN HERRINGTONMrs. Burkes, 67, of Philadelphia, died Thursday, June 12, 2014 at her home. She was a native of the Nanih Waiya community in Winston County.  She moved to Neshoba County and attended Arlington School and later graduated from Neshoba Central.  She formerly worked at Spartus in Louisville and Wells-Lamont, J.C. Penney and Western Auto in Philadelphia. Mrs. Burkes was Baptist by faith. Survivors include her husband, Joe Burkes, Jr. of Philadelphia; son, Trey Burkes of Philadelphia; sisters, Frances Rosamond of Louisville, Elewese Medders of Brandon and Jane Harrell of Morton; and several nieces, nephews and their families. Mrs. Burkes was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Sam and Odis Stewart.
