DONALD CAVINESSMr. Mims, 91, of Philadelphia, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS. Garland was born May 10, 1923 in the Burnside Community of Neshoba County to H.C. Mims and Geneva Moody Mims.  He was the first of four children.  He enlisted on July 14, 1941 at the age of 18 and served in both the Army Air Corps and U.S. Army during WWII and Korea.  After 10 years of military service, he married Tabitha (Tab) Lee on December 19, 1951 in Ovett, Jones County, MS. During the 1950’s, he owned and operated a gasoline station in Leland, MS and then later moved to Biloxi where he worked as a mechanic for a major automotive dealership.  In 1960 they moved to Jackson, MS and established Garland Mims Home Builders, which built houses in northeast Jackson and Madison County.  He and Tab were charter members of Christ United and Aldersgate United Methodist Church.  He was very proud to have constructed the building for the Aldersgate Church.  In 1967 they moved back to Neshoba County and settled in the Bond Community where he owned and operated a cattle and farming operation. Mr. Mims was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 59 years, Tab Mims, and brothers, Joseph H. Mims and Charles D. Mims. Survivors include his son, Lee G. Mims and his wife, Betty of Philadelphia; grandson, Garland E. Mims and his wife, Kristy of Huntsville, AL; granddaughter, Dory M. Craft and her husband, Sterling of Seminary; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Lee Craft of Seminary; one sister, Marie McGraw of Mobile, AL; and several nieces, and nephews and their families. The family would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS and Quality Hospice Care of Philadelphia for the excellent care and love that they showed our Dad.Pallbearers were Bob Lee, Bruce Lee, Sam Lee, Anthony Mims, John McGraw, Brad Chapman and Luke Gunn.  Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Copeland and Michael McGraw.
