He was born in Pensacola, Florida and lived most of his life in Kemper County, Mississippi.  He enjoyed working on the crew boat for oil rigs, working in commercial roofing, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his sisters, Susan Stevenson (James) of Decatur, MS and Paula Jones (Dale) of Mobile, AL and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bonnie McLaurin; sister, Dot McKinion.
