MARK LAWSON Mr. Weathers, 93, of the Damascus community, died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian. He was a veteran of the US Army in World War II in the European theater serving in the Reconnaissance Group of the 3rd Armored Division Headquarters Company. Corporal Weathers experienced combat in five major campaigns, including the D-Day invasion at Normandy and the Battle of the Belgium Bulge. He was also a retired superintendant with Southern Cemetery Consultants and an independent truck operator. Mr. Weathers is survived by sons, James Weathers, Jr. and his wife, Valerie of Damascus and Doug Weathers and his wife, Frances of Meridian; daughters, Faye Ryan of Biloxi, Cora Roberson and her husband, Bob of Meridian, and Carol Chisolm of Damascus; grandchildren, Teresa Hudson, James “Jimmy” Weathers, III, Tim Weathers, John Roberson, Lisa Battle, Laura Crosby, Bonnie Sanderford, David Roberson, and Terry Ryan; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Posey; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Mr. Weathers was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ruby Smith Weathers; parents, Cleveland and Gertrude Hoyt Weathers; brothers, Orbus, Ernest, Earl, Millard, Lester, Charles (infant), and Titus; and sister, Dessie Neal. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jimmy Weathers, Tim Weathers, John Roberson, David Roberson, and Terry Ryan and grandsons-in-law, Evan Battle and Caleb Crosby.
