LAWRENCE RUNNELS Mr. Chaney, 79, of Philadelphia, died Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Neshoba County General Hospital. He was a native of the Little Rock community in Newton County and had been a resident of Philadelphia since 1968. He retired in 1993 from the U.S. Army with the rank of Colonel and worked as a technician overseeing daily affairs of the 298th Maintenance Battalion. He had also served in the U.S. Navy from 1953-1956. Mr. Chaney was a member and deacon of North Calvary Baptist Church. He was a member of Gideons International, a former Lions Club member, and had previously served as a board member for the Philadelphia Municipal Airport. Survivors include his wife, Erdis Chaney of Philadelphia; sons, Irvin Chaney (Penny) of Philadelphia and Pat Chaney (Susan) of Amory; grandchildren, Shannon Morrow, Brad Chaney, Lindsey Chaney, Patrick Chaney, Edward Chaney and Walton Chaney; great-grandchildren, Hayden Chaney, Hannah Kuntz, Molly Kuntz, and Cameron Chaney; brother-in-law, Clyde Kilpatrick; and several nieces, nephews and their families. Mr. Chaney was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lela Chaney; sisters, Nina Ingram and Sylvia Smith; and brother, James L. Chaney.Pallbearers were Brad Chaney, Patrick Chaney, Edward Chaney, Walton Chaney, B. J. Morrow, David Eubanks, David Curtis and Jimmy Breedlove. Honorary pallbearers were John Albert Hendrix, Bobby Cumberland, Arthur Sharpe, Tommy Wren and Cleveland Parkes. Memorials may be made to Gideons International or your favorite charity.
