STUART PURVISMr. Burdell Barnes, 84, died Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Neshoba County Nursing Home in Philadelphia. He was a native and longtime resident of the Fork community in Neshoba County. He retired from Wells-Lamont after 35 years as a shipping/receiving clerk. Mr. Barnes was Baptist by faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict where he was awarded Purple Heart, Army Occupational Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Bronze Service Star and Distinguished Unit Citation. He was a member of VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed league bowling and fishing. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Shelby Barnes of Philadelphia; daughters, Rhonda (Stan) Whittington of Brandon and Debra Owen of Philadelphia; grandchildren, Jay (Claire) Whittington and Laura Whittington, Russ Owen and Chris (Elizabeth) Owen; great-grandchild, Jade Davidson; sister, Rita (Billy) Jayroe of Philadelphia and brother, Earvin (Doris) Barnes, Jr., of Tuscumbia, Ala. and a host of nieces, nephews and their families.
