WAYNE HILL  Mrs. Bates, 78, of Philadelphia, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian. She was a native and lifelong resident of Philadelphia.  Mrs. Bates was a member of Beacon Street Baptist Church. She worked at Hays Drug Store for a few years and was employed by Molpus Grocery for 50 years.  She had worked at Vowell’s Market Place for the past several years. Mrs. Bates was preceded in death her husband, Joe Bates and parents, Jack and Estelle Wells. Survivors include her daughter, Joy Bates Walker and her husband, Barry of Philadelphia; granddaughters, Kelly Walker Cheatham and her husband, David of Starkville and Jennifer Walker Phillips and her husband, Tracy of Philadelphia; and great-granddaughters, Addy Walker Phillips, Brooklyn Jane Cheatham and Caroline Grace Cheatham. Pallbearers were Tracy Phillips, David Cheatham, Ronnie Jenkins, Larry Smith, Bud Waddell and Jarrod Simmons.
