John "Sonny" Stokes

MACK ALFORDMr. Stokes, 73, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville. He was a native and lifelong resident of Neshoba County.  He was an avid guitarist and enjoyed playing and singing to nursing home residents.  Mr. Stokes attended East Philadelphia Baptist Church. Survivors include his sister, Carolyn Nicholson of Philadelphia and brother, Doyle Stokes of Bonaire, Georgia and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Stokes was preceded in death by his sisters, Billie Jean Denmark and Mary Ellen Barham; his parents, John Walton and Mary Helen Stokes.Memorials may be made to the University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association.
