RONNIE STOKES Mr. Cheatham, 79, of Preston, died Friday, March 25, 2011 at his home. He was a native and longtime resident of the Coy Community of Kemper County. He was a retired administrator, teacher and coach. He taught at Murrah High School in Jackson, taught and coached at Lynville School in Kemper, and retired as President of East Mississippi Junior College where he also coached girls basketball for a number of years. He was later inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at East Mississippi Community College. Mr. Cheatham was a member of Coy United Methodist Church and a member of Summerville Masonic Lodge. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during Korea. Survivors include his wife, Roma S. Cheatham of Preston; sons, Greg Cheatham and his wife, Vicki of Preston, Brad Cheatham of Quitman, and Chris Cheatham and his wife, Trina of Philadelphia; grandchildren, Russell Cheatham, Keri Beth Cheatham, Griffin Cheatham, Daniel Cheatham, and Katelyn Cheatham; brother, Travis Cheatham and his wife, Jean of Preston; and stepmother-in-law, Frances Stokes of Preston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Alma Cheatham.
