CHRIS VOWELL Mr. Sartin, 98, passed away at the Bee Hive Homes of Philadelphia on Saturday, February 19, 2011.   He was born in Ellisville, Mississippi on April 25, 1912, to James G. Sartin and Charity Rawls Sartin.  He was the seventh of twelve children.  He lived his early years in the edge of Neshoba County at Kitchener where his father owned a saw mill.  The family moved to Hattiesburg when he was a teenager.  He graduated from Gulf Coast Military Academy-Perkinston Institute along with graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi.   He married Margie Todd in 1935.  She preceded him in death in 1973.   He served Philadelphia as a community and civic leader for many years.  Sartin came to Philadelphia on July 4, 1955 as the manager of the J.C. Penney store in Philadelphia.  He worked for the Penney Company for 38 years.   He was past president of the Philadelphia-Neshoba County Chamber of Commerce, past president and Paul Harris Fellow of the Philadelphia Rotary Club and past president of the Philadelphia-Neshoba County Bi-Centennial Committee.  Sartin was a charter member of the Philadelphia-Neshoba County Park Commission.  He was past president of the Philadelphia-Neshoba County Mental Health Association and served on the State Mental Health Board.   As a member of the First United Methodist Church, he served on the Finance Committee, Official Board and Sunday School Superintendent.   Sartin enlisted in the Army Air Corp (Air Force) in 1942.  He served as the rank of Captain in the Southwest Pacific from 1944 to 1946.  He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.   He is survived by his daughter, Diane S. Malner and her husband, Edward Malner of Meridian; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Speake of Tulsa, OK and Allie Andrews of Austin, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
