September 10, 1928 — December 6, 2018

Services for Abby Jim Moore Payne are to be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from McClain-Hays Chapel with Doctor Dan Howard officiating and a tribute by Jill Conner Browne. Musicians are Jane Cole and Joey Kilgore. Burial to follow in Cedarlawn Cemetery with Paul Payne, Kyle Jennings, Jack McMichael, David Byars, Tim Moore and Max Loper serving as pallbearers. She passed away on December 6, 2018 at the Neshoba County Nursing Home. She was 90 years old. Abby Jim (named for her grandfathers Ab Harbour and Jim Moore) grew up in the Coldwater Community in Neshoba County and graduated from Coldwater High School. She was married to Glen Payne for 50 years. He preceded her in death in 1997. She is survived by her son Allen Glen Payne and his partner Jeffrey Gross along with Janice and Uhl Payne and family, sister Marilyn (Jerry) Rice and brother Billy (Barbara) Moore, and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. She taught kindergarten at First Baptist Church, and later became a Teacher’s Aide at Philadelphia Elementary School. She will be remembered by many as the friendly and familiar face—and helper for generations of brides!—of Busby’s Jewelry and Gifts and then The Harbour. After retiring, she became an Auxiliary Volunteer at the Neshoba County Hospital and served as Manager of the Hospital Gift Shop. She was an excellent cook and skilled baker known for all of her delicious food and signature dishes which she generously shared with friends and neighbors and her church community, and especially her cakes, in particular her caramel cake. She also will be remembered for her immaculate yard (always meticulously raked!) that was her pride and joy, particularly her flowers and prized azaleas. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and was very active in all the programs at FBC. In 2015 she became a resident of Atwood Personal Care Home and she embraced the community there and was loved by all. She most recently was a resident of the Neshoba County Nursing Home, where she was lovingly cared for. Also preceding her in death were her parents Julia Anie and Leavell Moore; sister Yevette Moore Baxter; brothers Norman Moore, Paulvin Moore and Harbour Moore. We will miss her.
