Mrs. Jean Landrum Yates, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016.  She was born August 17, 1931 in Philadelphia, Mississippi.  She was a devoted Christian wife and mother.  Among her many loves were God, family, her church, and music.  She was an active member of First Baptist Church for more than 60 years.  She taught in the Children’s Department for at least half a century.  Mrs. Yates’ love for children spanned many generations.  She praised God as a soprano in the Chancel Choir.  Mrs. Yates was a charter member of the Lydian Music Club and was active until her death. She was an avid gardener, taking pride in her flowers and vegetable garden, which she lovingly shared with friends and family.  Mrs. Yates is survived by her husband, Charles Yates; her sons Bill Yates (Diana), Stan Yates (Debra), and Chris Yates (Jan); and daughter, Laura Yates Lamb (Brian).  She is survived by grandchildren Christa, Becky, Charlie, Jared, Jesse, Elliot, Russ, Chris, Brittany, McKenzie, Garrett, Jessica, and Jennifer.  She was blessed with numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, John Landrum (Dorothy), of Collinsville.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Hattie Landrum, sister Jane Darnell, and daughter-in-law Debbie Yates. In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorials be made to Childcare Ministries, First Baptist Church, Philadelphia, MS.
